I was at this school for about 2 years, and it was really a wonderful community to be apart of. Miyuki-sensei crafts the curriculum herself with the team, and it results in informative, fun and enjoyable classes. Good team of teachers also. You'll really become quite good at learning Japanese coming to this school.Also its located really close to Nunawading Station with plenty of places around for a good dinner or coffee afterwards!I'm now living in Japan, and this has helped me lay the foundations for speaking Japanese.

I started learning at Nunawading Japanese School in October 2022. My classes are online as I am based in Adelaide, SA. I think one of the best things about Nunawading classes is the conversational speaking practice (かいわーアッタク！！). For 4 months prior I had studied a different Japanese language school in person in SA before Joining Nunawading Japanese School. I found that my old school focussed so heavily on writing and reading; and as a result I felt I had no confidence in speaking and my listening skills were really lacking.I found Nunawading Japanese School on Google, and saw they offered online classes which was perfect for me to fit around work hours. I was a bit nervous as I wasn't sure how an online class would work but I have to say every class is run so smoothly, the Sensei (teachers) are amazing and so supportive, and it's a really fun interactive learning environment with your classmates.The textbook and homework（しゅくだい <3）are well paced, and the listening exercises for each chapter are great for reinforcing vocabulary and grammar you learn in class. In 6 months I've made friends with my class mates and I'm looking forward to making a trip from Adelaide to Melbourne for the Japanese Summer Festival at Box Hill on May 26th! Big thank you to Mari sensei, Eiko sensei, Kanoko sensei, Noriko sensei and Vaughn-san for their awesome work!

I’ve been taking the online classes from Hong Kong for more than a year. It’s been a truly amazing and enjoyable experience for me. What impresses me most is that all the teachers at Nunawading Japanese School are enthusiastic and considerate. They always encourage me to speak and practice, even if I am still a beginner. (The dialogue time excites me a lot.) Plus, they are very professional and have a carefully designed syllabus which helps me to learn new stuff while consistently reviewing what has been covered. And since I'm taking individual classes, they keep adjusting the pace of teaching according to my own needs.The school has also done a great job in the management of online classes (thanks to Vaughan). Learning online is almost no different than taking the classes in person. I do recommend the online courses to those who love learning Japanese but are not able to attend in person.

The group classes are thoroughly enjoyable and a great way to meet other people who are also learning Japanese. I compared similar schools but found nothing like this one. Relationship between quality and price is great but nothing can beats their professionalism and such amazing way of teaching, that makes you look forward to the next class and crave for more learning.Five stars is not enough for this amazing team and now almost three years later I’m still convinced there’s no place like this.End of the year Christmas event is such an amazing time to catch up with classmates and have a bit of culture and understanding of what Japan has to offer.Keep up the great job, team, all sensei are amazing!

I have been learning Japanese with the Nunawading Japanese School for six months now. I have previously studied the language, however my commitment to studying and retention of the language itself was not very strong or motivated. This course however has totally changed my perspective on learning another language! The classes are very engaging, and they pace the units so that you never feel rushed or left behind. The atmosphere of the classes give me confidence to actively contribute in-class; an issue that I was seeking to address at the beginning of the course. I highly recommend this school!!!EDIT: I thought to edit this review after a year of attending classes here. Overall I have been finding the classes very engaging. I love that the classes almost exclusively focus on improving listening and speaking skills, as these are the two components of language acquisition that are the most difficult to hone. I find that my confidence in speaking Japanese has improved monumentally. An added bonus is that you join an equally motivated and engaging community that is also just as interested in Japanese language and culture!

I studied at Nunawading Japanese School onsite for a few months and the classroom atmosphere is great. The Sensei's make you feel comfortable and evenly distribute their attention to each student. I had to move away and transitioned to online classes and Vaughan was very helpful in finding me and new class to join. I also did catch up lessons to help me to get to my new classes level. I felt very welcomed into my new class. The content is great and I learn at a steady pace which fits into my busy schedule. Overall, I would highly recommend Nunawading Japanese School to anybody wanting to learn and I plan on continuing my studies with them until the end!

I had been studying for at least over 2+ years now and I can feel my proficiency and understanding of Japanese language improves astronomically. I used to only have a vague understanding of Japanese (through some tv show/anime/manga/novel) but now, I can understand more and more from those media. The teachers are native Japanese and the classes progress at a steady pace with a lot of practical applications. It may seems slow at time but remember that you don't learn a language overnight, it's a lifetime commitment. I have been attending Nunawading Japanese School's group Japanese classes for a year. The classes are small and very welcoming and the teachers are friendly and energetic! The school was also very helpful during my teaching rounds and organised catch up lessons for me so that I didn't fall behind in class. Prior to starting group classes, I was using an online platform to go through the Genki textbook. I found Nunawading Japanese School far more beneficial for my learning as there was more opportunities to practice speaking and listening in a conversational manner.

I started with Nunawading Japanese School at the start of 2022. Before I started, I knew nothing about the Japanese language. I have been studying Japanese online at Nunawading Japanese School for just over a year now, the experience so far has been fun and full of laughter and I feel motivated to continue on!There are 7 of us in our weekly online group class and everyone is courteous and helpful. We enjoy learning together, we keep helping and encouraging each other when things get a bit too much for our brains to handle!All the Japanese teachers are patient and are fluent in English, which is helpful for us, beginners! We learn from different teachers and you may wonder who the teacher is for each week, however, most of the time, the teachers are able to follow on from one another with minimal confusion or disruption to the class. My favourite teachers are Mari sensei, Eiko sensei, Kanoko sensei, Mia sensei and Miyuki sensei. せんせいたち、ありがとうございます！Having studied for a year, I can read and write hiragana and katakana confidently; I can have simple conversations in Japanese to introduce myself; I can briefly tell what I did in a day; I ordered my usual sushi over the phone in Japanese at my favourite sushi place in Ivanhoe, two weeks ago!The current group learning and pace suits me well, as I am learning the language as a hobby. For anyone thinking to learn Japanese, definitely worth booking in a trial lesson and/or level check with the school. The helpful school Manager Vaughan-san will sure assist to point you to the right direction!
