Tokyo (Part 1 – 東京 パート１)

新宿　　原宿・渋谷　　中野・高円寺・吉祥寺

新宿 – Shinjuku 

新宿駅は日本で一番人が多い駅です。ラッシュアワーは本当におそろしいですよ。押しつぶされますよ。伊勢丹や高島屋などデパートがたくさんあって、“デパ地下”と呼ばれる食品売り場では、いろいろな食べ物を試食することができます。とても気前がいいですよね。

Shinjuku station is the most crowded station in Japan. The rush-hour is really horrible. You will get squashed.

There are lots of department stores such as Isetan and Takashimaya and you can try various free food samples at the food section of the department store basement called “Depachika“. They are so generous, aren’t they?

ネオンがきらめく歌舞伎町やゴールデン街では、居酒屋はもちろん、大人の世界を楽しむことができますよ。あ、歌舞伎町にあるサムライミュージアムはちょっと奇妙ですが、外国人にはおもしろいかもしれません。

In neon-glittering Kabuki-cho or Golden-gai, you can enjoy Japanese pubs and the fun world for adults. Oh, Samurai Museum in Kabuki-cho is a bit odd but might be interesting for foreigners. Also, don’t forget Ramen.

あと、ラーメンも忘れてはいけません。新宿にはラーメン屋さんがどこにでもあります。私はとんこつスー

プがあまり好きではありませんが、一蘭や一風堂のとんこつラーメンはあっさり味でおいしいと思います。春は新宿御苑の桜がとてもきれいですよ。

In Shinjuku, ramen-shop is everywhere. I don’t like Tonkotsu-soup much, but I think Tonkotsu ramen such as Ichiran and Ippuudoo taste delicious because they have light taste. In spring, the cherry blossoms in Shinjuku Gyoen are very beautiful.

原宿／渋谷 – Harajuku/Shibuya　

原宿と渋谷は若者の街です。特に原宿の竹下通りはとてもにぎやかで、洋服やアクセサリー、雑貨のお店が立ち並んでいます。ロリータやきゃりーぱみゅぱみゅのような可愛い女の子たちがぶらついていますよ。

Harajuku and Shibuya are towns for young people. Especially Takeshita-doori in Harajuku is quite lively, and shops for clothes, accessories and knickknack are lined up. Pretty girls who look like Rorita or Kyary Pamyu Pamyu are hanging around there.

あと、クレープが有名です。とても甘いですが、女の子たちはこれが好きで並んで買います。原宿駅の裏側にある明治神宮はとても静かでいいですよ。森林の中に神社があって「ここは本当に東京？」と思うかもしれません。人混みに疲れたら、ここでゆっくり散歩してみてください。ここから代々木公園も近いですね。

Also, crepes are famous. Even though they are very sweet, Japanese girls love them so they queue to buy them. Meiji-jinguu which is located at the other side of Harajuku station is nice and quiet. There is a shrine in the woods, so you might think “Am I in Tokyo?”.

When you get tired of the crowd, please take a walk in Meiji-jinguu. Yoyogi-park is also close to here.

土日にはよくフリーマーケットなどのイベントが行われていますよ。渋谷の駅前はとにかくすごい人の数です。スクランブル交差点では、デモ行進!?　ウォーリーを探せ!?　と思うかもしれません。

On Saturday and Sunday, some events such as flea market are going on. In front of Shibuya station there’s a crazy amount of people.  At the scramble crossing, you might think “Is this a protest march?” “Where’s Wally?”

ハチ公像や巨大スクリーン広告も渋谷のシンボルです。デパートもたくさんあります。109ビルは女子高生の間で一番人気のスポット。私のおすすめは、東急ハンズです。ユニークで便利な雑貨や人気のキャラクターグッズがたくさんありますよ。

Hachikoo statue and huge screen advertising are also symbols of Shibuya. There are lots of department stores as well. 109 (Ichi-maru-kyu) is the popular spot among high school girls. My recommendation is Tokyu hands.

 

Tons of unique and useful items and also popular character goods are there.

中野／高円寺／吉祥寺（中央線沿い (Nakano/Kooenji/Kichijooji(Chuuoo-Line)

アニメやまんが、フィギュアやコスプレ衣装を買いたい人は、秋葉原もいいですが中野もかなりおすすめですよ。中野ブロードウェイのまんだらけは、ユニークでちょっと変なお店もあって見ているだけでもおもしろいです。

Although Akihabara is good for people who want to buy Japanese animation, Manga, figurines, cosplay dress, Nakano is highly recommended too. Mandarake in Nakano Broadway is unique. There are some strange shops as well so just looking is lots of fun.

高円寺はあまり有名ではありませんが、商店街は昔懐かしいお店とおしゃれな古着屋さんがミックスしていて、いい雰囲気があります。私は昔、ここに６年間も住んでいたのでこの町を紹介しました。すみません。８月の下旬には、伝統行事、阿波踊りが開催され、人！人！人！になりますよ。それともう一つ。沖縄居酒屋の抱瓶（だちびん）は、何を食べてもおいしいです。

Kooenji is not so famous but the shopping streets have a good mix of nostalgic shops and fashionable second hand clothing shops. I used to live here for 6 years so that’s why I’m recommending here. At the end of August a traditional event Awa-odori Dance is held, and the town becomes people! people! people! And also one more thing, at the Okinawan pub Dachi-bin they serve some delicious dishes.

吉祥寺は井之頭公園が有名です。大きい池があって、ボートに乗れます。駅前のにぎやかな商店街でのぶらぶら歩きも楽しいです。サトウのメンチカツは、並ばないと買えませんがおいしいですよ。“スタジオジブリ”ファンは、ジブリ美術館を見逃してはいけません。大きなトトロやロボット兵に会えますよ。入場チケットは事前に買わないといけないので注意してくださいね。

Kichijooji is famous for Inogashira park. There is a big pond and you can enjoy boating. It’s also fun strolling on the shopping streets just in front of the station.

The meat cutlet at Satoo is very yummy even though you have to queue for it. If you love Studio Ghibli, don’t miss Ghibli museum. You can see the big Totoro and the Robot Soldier.

Just be careful, you have to buy ticket in advance.
